Wild Horse Adoption at the Reno Livestock Events Center
June 13, 14 and 15, 1997
Reno, Nevada

The personnel at the National Wild Horse and Burro Center at Palomino Valley would like to invite you to attend their adoption at The National Wild Horse and Burro Show to be held at the Livestock Events Center. on June 13, 14 and 15, 1997. This is a rare opportunity to to adopt horses gathered from the Winnemucca and Battle Mountain Districts in Nevada which exhibit exceptional size and color. Additionally, Bryan Neubert, from Alturas California will be giving training demonstrations starting at 9:00 a.m., throughout the day, each day of the event. The adoption and Bryan's demonstrations will be located at the Cutting Arena at the Livestock Events Center.

Adoption applicants must have an approved application from their office of jurisdiction prior to the adoption event. Selection for adoption will be done by a lottery drawing held at 10:00 am on each day. Adopters will chose their animal(s) according to the selection number they have drawn. BLM personnel will be available to assist and answer questions during the Selection process. The available animals will be at the Events Center starting the afternoon of Thursday, June 12, for viewing, with a listing of age, sex and color.

The Private Maintenance and Care Agreement will need to be signed and filled out after the animal has been selected for adoption by the pre-approved applicant. At that time payment is required with the use of personal cheeks, money orders? traveler's checks or cash. Checks will need to be made payable to U.S. Dept. of Interior, Bureau of land Management. (NOTE: Personal checks are the most preferable method of payment).

Horses will not be loaded into anything other than a livestock trailer. Arrangements for the use of a sturdy livestock trailer prior to coming to the facility must be made. Verify with our office prior to the adoption event that your trailer is acceptable. Adopted animals will be loaded out during the day between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, Friday-and Saturday. On Sunday, adopting must be completed by 12:00 pm and horses loaded out by 3:00 pm. For those adopters showing previously adopted animals at the horse show, please plan your loading accordingly. If you want to load a newly adopted horse onto a trailer with the animal(s) you are showing, you will need to be able to gate off the wild horse or make arrangements for a separate trailer.
